The Pinoy Flyers: Dedication and Passion for Pigeon fanciers and breeders in the Philippines

Pigeon Racing is now one of the most popular animal sports here in the Philippines, compare to fighting cocks whose the method of tournament is harsh, Pigeon racing is a little bit mild because they don't have to kill to win or be killed to lose. Losing is not a big deal in pigeon racing because there is always second chances if the racing pigeon still manages to return home.

Going back to Philippines, wherever you go, highway roads, streets mostly in Metro Manila and also other part of the country, you will see there is pigeon flying in the sky. Why? wherever you look, you will see different sizes of pigeon lofts in any houses in Metro Manila. Rich or poor, middle class or average class of person can have their own loft as long as the pigeon returns home there. In addition also, they can make easy money through pigeon racing by only doing street fights or most common term for fanciers is "hack fights". They don't need any space to do the race, what they only do is bring the birds(pigeon) in a certain location, drop it there, let it fly and the first bird to manage to go home wins. This is either through sms mode, or the old system of hack players wherein they take the returned bird in their loft and run through the designated spot or way point area and the person who manages to go there wins the race. A breeder, bird relationship sincronization.

but why most of Filipinos are addicted in racing pigeons?

In my personal point of view and my experience myself, I myself and my brother is also a fancier/breeder for almost 12 years to present. We started our passion when we were still childrens until we mature enough and can manage to support ourselves and our own hobby, Pigeon Racing. Base on our experience, most of fanciers take this as an opportunity to earn good money, not only by racing but also in breeding. Also, considering the time, effort and needed space to take care of this birds, compare to farm and backyard farm of fightng cocks. Also the influences of the different clubs here in the Philippines offering its members prestigeous chance to let their bird fly from different location in not only in wide manila but in different location all over the Philippines. In addition to that, pigeons does not need too much effort if you have limited time to take care of, even you have a small box loft carying about 10 birds, feed them and put clean water, it is enough. ofcourse, for those who really into racing should add some effort and considering some various trainings for their athletes. Age gap is not an issue also because, just what i have said before, you don't need to have a big loft or space in order to take care of these athletes, even a small crates/boxes of vegetable will do as long as you can manage to sustain the needs of your birds which is mainly, food and water.

In all of these, I made and dedicate this blogs to my fellow fanciers and breeders and also, to share my life long passion about these athletes. For my 12 years of experiences, me and my brother served this as our life long challenge to learn more and t produce more champions which we can someday share to our future players and fanciers. We also believe that one day, Pigeon racing would be recognized as one of the healtiest and safest animal sports in the Philippines just like in other parts of the world. Once again, Mabuhay Pilipinong kalaptids and fly high to aim our dream to produce more champions.
